Merck to invest in Wilson packaging facility

Merck is planning to invest $15m to expand and renovate its packaging facility in Wilson, US.

The company said it will invest millions over the next year in two capital projects at its Merck Road packaging facility.

The two projects include renovating existing manufacturing space and building a new cold storage facility for vaccine packaging, which are scheduled for completion in 2013.

Merck Wilson plant manager Stan Booth was quoted by wilsontimes.com as saying that packaging and proper storage to protect the potency and viability of the many vaccines that Merck produces is essential.

"When the expansion efforts in Wilson are complete the facility will be able to package and store refrigerated and frozen vaccines at ideal conditions," Booth added.

The Wilson Packaging and Stability Testing facility serves as a packaging center for many of the company’s pharmaceutical products for the US and Canadian markets.
