Chesapeake Offers New Paperboard Concept For Packaging

Chesapeake, a UK-based supplier of cartons, labels and leaflets and specialist plastic packaging, has launched a new paperboard concept Impressions that can provide 3D quality to any pack.

Chesapeake said that Impressions is formed by using a specialist low energy process which makes it possible to form a paperboard material into a complete range of distinctive shapes.

Chesapeake has a lead supplier agreement to exclusively offer Impressions to its customers. The development can help to promote and complement a brand – from tactile bubbles on a tube to replicating the distinctive shape of a bottle or jar.

Impressions also has the flexibility to be formed into a pod to hold a liquid or paste, offering a more environmentally responsible alternative to plastic packaging.

Carol Hammond, head of R&D at Chesapeake, said: “At last there is a paper-based material that gives an answer to forming 3D shaped packaging for cartonboard. Our design and technical team have worked extensively on this joint development project to perfect a processing route for the material and design products for market.

“We believe Impressions offers brand owners and manufacturers a wide range of marketing opportunities to differentiate their brands. It provides a tactile quality that is so positive you feel compelled to touch the pack. Impressions is ideal for a wide range of markets but is especially relevant to branded packaging applications in the confectionery, drinks and healthcare sectors.”
